First DevLog: Introducing Zac
Hi!
I've been putting this off but need to get it out there.
This Dev Log will be a quick intro on who I am, and what I hope to get out of this project
My next one will be a more detailed look at the vision and concept for the game.
So hi!
My name is Zacharia Winter (Zac) and I am an aspiring game dev.
I am currently employed as a 3D animator for an engineering consultancy firm. So I make videos that cover installation, operation, and design pitches for things like Green Hydrogen Plants, Methanation plants, and other energy industry related things.
My qualifications include a Cert II in 3D modelling and Animation, and a Bacherlor of Creative Media, majoring in 'Game Art and Design'.My graduation ceremony for the bachelors is in 2 weeks, and I have the honor of giving the valedictory speech.
I initially pursued game design because of how much I loved League of Legends character splash arts. However, landing a job in 3D and never practising 2D, I am not at all confident in character illustrtation and it is no longer my passion within this industry. 3D is my area of expertise and my main area of interest in coding and game design itself: the ideas and production of the game. I was part of a group project at uni called Stabo Crabo: https://scuttlestudios.itch.io/stabo-crabo wherein I was the producer, primary coder, and I contributed to the 3D assets.
Now that I am finished with my studies in my view I have 2 main options: Seek employment in the games industry, or continue with my current employment and start a games project on the side. For now I have chosen the latter. My hope for this project is that I can release a playable demo by the end of the year. I can only spare about 8-10 hours a week for it currently but we will see how it goes. I have no expectations of this making any money, but by the end of it I will have gained some skills and have a portfolio piece at the very least.
I am trying to make a proper effort on the social media / marketing side of things, not so that this game can make money, but so that I can experience that area as skill building for the future.
Anyways, that's about it for this intro. The next log should be much more game focussed.
